On March 2, 1991, AMD prevailed in arbitration and was clear to release its 386 CPU. Intel then moved on to trying to keep AMD from releasing a clone of the 486. In that case as well, Intel was able to delay AMD’s 486 but not block it. Intel was successful in blocking a Pentium clone that used any Intel IP.
